Underground University: Born January 3, 2009!

Important stuff: Seoul USA is a network of Christians who want to Do The Word in such a way that the darkest corners of the world are impacted. Seoul USA folks don’t just like to support others out there Doing The Word. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course. It’s just not us.) So we’re officially an organization (which is really good from an IRS standpoint), but we act like a decentralized volunteer network (which is really good from a body of Christ standpoint).
And you should get in on this action. Fun. Dangerous. Meaningful. Interesting bedfellows and all that.
Seoul USA is composed of Christians in the West who want to befriend, equip, and upside-down the world with the Christians in the East who everyone counts out when it comes to mission and ministry: North Korean defectors, women, youth, the elderly, divorcees, the handicapped, mixed race individuals, and multi-ethnic couples.
The goal? We support the good guy Asian outcasts. We befriend ‘em and equip ‘em with the best we can muster. We raise ‘em up. Give ‘em confidence. Train ‘em to reach their fellow outcasts with the Gospel in the darkest corners of the world, with a special tip of the cap to North Korea and China. (We’re already under your skin, NK and China! Surrender while you still can!)
To understand the vision, it’s important to understand a dirty little secret about Korean Christianity, namely:
In Korea, Christianity has always been the religion of the rich, whereas Buddhism has always been the religion of the poor.
(OK. There, we said it. Wow, we feel better now.Do you still like us?)
As a result, folks from the “less desirable” social groups are underrepresented in Asian church pews, underutilized in mission, and undertrained.Plus everybody looks down on ‘em. Nice life, huh?
Funny thing is, these Asian outcasts are almost always in a better position to do the really serious ministry that needs to be done. Like pounding away at the rock that is North Korea with the Gospel, for instance.
